Elephants are revered in many cultures and religions throughout the world.  In China, India and Africa, the elephant signified power, wisdom, divine knowledge, happiness and longevity.  In Hinduism, the elephant-headed Ganesha is one of the most beloved deities. His image is found throughout Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. He is known as the Lord of Good Fortune: providing prosperity and success; the Lord of Beginnings and also the Destroyer of Obstacles.  In Buddhism, the elephant is considered sacred, a symbol of mental strength, and is a guardian to Buddha.
